What HostLedger is
HostLedger helps short-term rental hosts keep income, expenses, trips and receipts organized, and shows a summary laid out like the Canadian Form T776 and the US Schedule E. It is a record keeper.
Who we are not
HostLedger is a record-keeping tool. It is not an accountant or a tax advisor, and it is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), any government, or any booking platform such as Airbnb, Vrbo or Booking.com. Airbnb, Vrbo and Booking.com are trademarks of their owners. Names of forms, agencies and platforms are used only to describe what the records are for.
It is not tax or legal advice
The app uses simple rules and the numbers you type in. Tax rules are complicated, change often, and depend on your situation. Amounts, warnings and notes in the app may be wrong or out of date. Check with a qualified tax professional before you file or rely on any figure. You are responsible for what you file.
Your account
Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us if you think someone else has used it. You may delete your account at any time from More, then Account. That deletes all your records at once, and we remove the sign-in itself on request if it cannot be done automatically.
Keeping your records
Tax authorities expect you to keep your records. In Canada that is six years from the end of the last tax year they relate to, and the rules for the United States differ. HostLedger helps you organize records, but a picture saved here is a convenience copy. Unless your accountant confirms that a scanned copy meets the tax authority's rules, keep your paper receipts for the full period. You are responsible for keeping your records, and for downloading your data before you delete your account or stop using HostLedger. If we ever close the service, we will give you notice and a way to download your data first.
Your information
You own what you enter. You allow us to store and show it to you so the app can work. See the Privacy Policy for how we handle it.
Using the app properly
Please do not try to break the app, read other people's information, or use it for anything unlawful. We may suspend an account that does.
Plans and payments
HostLedger is free for 1 property. Paid plans (Plus, up to 3 properties; Pro, up to 10 properties) are billed in Canadian dollars, monthly or yearly, and renew automatically until you cancel. Prices are shown on the Plans screen in the app and may change; we will tell you before a change affects you. Applicable taxes may be added.
Payments are handled by Stripe. You can change your plan, update your card or cancel any time from Manage subscription in the app. If you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for and then does not renew. Fees already paid are not refunded, except where the law requires it, or where we decide to as a courtesy: email us if something went wrong.
If you have more properties than your plan allows, you can still see and export all your records. You just cannot add more properties until you upgrade.
Early testing
The app is provided as is, without promises that it will always be available or free of mistakes. Features, limits and prices may change. Please keep your own copy of important records.
Limits on our responsibility
To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for lost data, lost income, tax penalties or other losses that come from using or not being able to use the app.
Changes and law
We may update these terms and will change the date above when we do. These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada.
